KARAKIA IN KOHUKOHU

video
One of the beautiful things about attending an art opening here in the Hokianga is being in time for the
powhiri. The powhiri is the welcoming ceremony that takes place before the show can be viewed and before
drinks, nibbles and chats can begin.
A karakia is a song.
This is the graduate art students opening at Village Arts gallery in Kohu Kohu on November 15, 2008.

Moirai Studio Art Exhibition at Bayly's Beach !

Moirai Studio/Gallery resident artists Diane Rose Yanakopulos and
Seabourne Rust recently had a successful exhibition of their unique,
diversive paintings at The Funky Fish, Bayly's Beach.
'Treasures from the Kauri Coast' featured a wide variety of subject matter
sourced from this special area from Dargaville to Waipoua Forest and the Hokianga,
including mythological aspects.
We have been invited to exhibit at the Funky Fish once more, so stay tuned for future details.

small spaces can still be filled with surprizes

This exhibition is made from historical remnants gathered from the Hokianga shores. Now due to erosion the building that houses it is coming closer to returning there itself. Hopefully it will last the time of yet one more exhibition.
Check it out before the 12th of February.

WISHES FOR A PROSPEROUS AND JOYOUS NEW YEAR

this is a beautiful gouache by Harmen of Waima Lodge.
it turned up in my inbox yesterday - a very good omen for the year to come.
the new Heart Trails have arrived back from the printers and they look beautiful! North Siders can pick them up at Village Arts , Kohukohu and South Siders can pick them up at the Outpost in Rawene.

its great to see this blog site alive and kicking ! there is no one way
of doing things or seeing things - there are many ways and the fun part is discussing them
right here at the Hokianga Heart! xxx love and hugs everyone ;)
To heart trail supporters.
This site was almost lost through lack of use and Lise was not going to renew it.
I begged her to keep it going as I really wanted to use it to promote the Hokianga in a positive and creative way. My idea is to create interest in coming to the Hokianga in any way I could as this site is set up for artists to share their work and ideas. It is not meant to be a stagnant site. I hope what I have done will prompt others to add positive items that can be interspersed with artist's promos and updates

This building is taking up a new vocation
what will it be

Moirai Studio / Gallery

Kia ora ~ my name is Diane Rose Yanakopulos.

From earliest memories I have been painting and creating and have had various tuition over the years, from respected teachers, however, I now prefer 'the school of life'.
Freedom of expression allows a wide scope and body of works to be presented.

These can be viewed, by appointment only, from the Moirai Studio/Gallery which is set in private bush clad surroundings, with uninterrupted panoramic views of valley and mountain ranges.
This northern gateway to Waipoua Kauri Forest is just 4kms before Tane Mahuta on State Highway 12.

It has been a long held dream to establish a private studio/gallery and you will be warmly welcomed to Moirai for viewing with opportunity for sales, of my own, and my fellow resident artist, Seabourne Rust, whom is also a gifted visionary artist.

Whatever your taste, you just may find it here!

Beverly Cox

Beverly Cox depicts Raurenga or Kidney fern – thought to be amongst the most primitive of living plants – as a metaphor for humankind’s tenuous grip on the earth, the fragility of the natural world and the passage of time through generations: Capturing the filmy, dainty and almost translucent quality of the plants which she sees as women. “She waits in the wings for precious drops of moisture … steps out onto centre stage … gracefully and gently opens, sparkling in the light. The whole glade sighs.” Cox was born on the banks of the Whanganui river and has lived and worked in Hokianga for over 20 years.

You can visit her studio set amongst kahikatea trees
